Internet access was severed early Friday morning
Rogers Communications customers were left without internet, phone and T.V. services on Friday as a critical fibre cable was cut accidentally in Port Moody.
The outage started around 8:30 a.m. and has continued throughout the day as crews worked to restore service to the affected areas.
Tree trimming crews cut through a section of a fibre optic cable Friday morning causing the service disruption.
“Some customers in parts of Port Moody and Coquitlam may be experiencing an interruption to their residential services due to an aerial fibre cut caused by a third-party tree trimming company,” said a Rogers spokesperson in an email statement.
“Our crews are working diligently to complete the extensive fibre splicing repairs caused by this incident and this will continue through the night,” the statement continued.
As crews worked throughout the day to restore service, customers found the outage and Rogers handling of the situation frustrating.
“It’s been hours since the service went and there’s not even a forecast of how long it will be. I would expect a way faster response to this outage. Quite disappointed by how Rogers is handling this,” Fatio Fatio said on X, formerly Twitter.
Due to complex repairs and extent of the damage, services are expected to be restored early tomorrow afternoon, read the Rogers statement.
Emergency Info BC said on X that 911 services were unavailable Friday.
“Rogers/Shaw landline services including 9-1-1 are currently unavailable in #PortMoody and some parts of #Coquitlam. In an emergency, try a cellphone or get help from people nearby.”
We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and we will keep them updated on our progress, the spokesperson said in the email.
A request was sent to The City of Port Moody but they were unable to provide a comment by our deadline.
